Solar Eclipse

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT REGARDING THE APRIL 8, 2024 SOLAR ECLIPSE:

Western Beaver County School District will operate on an early dismissal schedule on Monday, April 8, 2024, due to the Solar Eclipse.

On April 8, 2024, the Solar Eclipse begins in our area at approximately 2:00 p.m. as the moon’s orbit begins to travel in between the sun and Earth. This event causes the moon to create a dark shadow as it passes in front of the sun. In our location, the total Eclipse phase will begin around 3:15 p.m. and end at approximately 4:30 p.m.

As you may know, during a Solar Eclipse, it is not safe to look directly at the sun with the naked eye or any standard sunglasses. Although our community is not in the path of totality, we will see over 95% of the totality. Therefore, it will not be safe to look directly at the Eclipse.

The Solar Eclipse will begin just prior to the High School’s normal dismissal time and will be in totality during the regular Fairview Elementary School’s dismissal. The district feels that it is best to operate on an early dismissal schedule to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and bus drivers.
